The Aryavarth Express:
New York, March 27: Iran has formally raised concerns at the United Nations over media reports alleging that the United States and Israel are planning assassination attempts against senior Iranian leaders, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
According to reports cited by Press TV, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, expressed serious concern in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council.
In his letter, Iravani referred to media claims suggesting that high-ranking Iranian officials have been identified as potential targets, warning that any reported suspension of such plans appears to be temporary. He stated that these allegations point to a broader operational framework targeting Iran’s political leadership.
Describing such actions as a violation of international law, Iravani said any attempt to assassinate officials of a sovereign state would breach the UN Charter and undermine global peace and stability. He strongly condemned what he called efforts to normalize political assassinations, warning that such actions could set a dangerous precedent.
In separate communications, Iran also lodged protests against Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, alleging that their territories and airspace were used by US and Israeli forces for operations targeting Iran.
Iravani urged these countries to prevent any further use of their territories for such purposes, while affirming that Iran reserves the right to take necessary measures, including self-defence, to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The developments come amid escalating tensions in the region, with the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran entering its fourth week. Earlier, US President Donald Trump indicated a possible pause in operations, stating that Iran had sought a temporary halt in strikes on its energy infrastructure. However, hostilities have continued.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the launch of the 83rd wave of “Operation True Promise 4,” targeting key US and Israeli military installations using advanced missiles and drones.
