In MI’s season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders, Sharma played a sensational innings of 78 runs off 39 balls, steering his side to a successful chase of 221 with five balls to spare.
Rohit Sharma now holds the record for the most runs scored by a batter against one team in IPL history, amassing 1,161 runs in 36 matches at an average of 40.03 against KKR while representing both the Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians. Kohli is second on the list with 1,159 runs in 36 matches against Punjab Kings.
With this achievement, Rohit Sharma also continues to consolidate his position as the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history, having scored 7,124 runs in 273 matches, including 48 half-centuries and two centuries, at an average of 29.93.
The MI opener was a record-setting chase, marking their biggest run-chase in IPL history and their first season-opener victory since 2012. Ryan Rickelton contributed with a blazing 81 off 41 balls, while Sharma’s explosive 78 runs powered the Mumbai Indians. Together, the duo put up a century partnership that dismantled the KKR bowling attack and set the tone for a thrilling six-wicket victory.
