New Delhi: Marking International Women’s Day, IndiGo announced that it now employs more than 1,000 women pilots, becoming the first and only airline in India to achieve this milestone.
According to a company release issued on Saturday, women pilots now account for 17.5% of IndiGo’s total pilot workforce, which is more than three times the global average. The airline stated that this reflects its commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace that supports the aspirations of women entering the aviation industry.
IndiGo also highlighted broader gender representation across its workforce. Women currently make up over 45% of the airline’s total employees. In addition:
More than 30% of airport operations staff are women
Nearly 25% of the Operations Control Centre workforce are women
Over 20% of roles in finance are held by women
More than 15% of digital team members are women
Around 23% of leadership positions are occupied by women
Speaking on the occasion, Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at IndiGo, said the achievement reflects the airline’s commitment to empowering women in aviation.
“On International Women’s Day, we are proud to announce that IndiGo now has over 1,000 women pilots, among the highest in the world. This milestone reflects the spirit of ‘Girl Power’ at IndiGo. As we continue to give wings to the nation, we remain committed to creating more opportunities for talented women to soar and shape the future of aviation,” he said.
To celebrate the occasion, IndiGo also released a short film on social media highlighting the journeys of women working across different roles in the airline and celebrating moments that helped them achieve their dreams.
The airline added that its diversity initiatives are part of the EMBRACE programme, which focuses on Equity, Multiculturalism, Belonging, Respect, Accessibility, Community, and Empowerment. Through these efforts, IndiGo aims to promote gender equality and create an inclusive work environment for employees from diverse backgrounds.
With this milestone, IndiGo said it continues to strengthen its position as an industry leader while encouraging more women to pursue careers in aviation and leadership roles.
