Grand Celebration of Panchamaha Rathotsava in Nanjangud Draws Thousands

The temple town of Nanjangud, known as 'Dakshina Kashi,' witnessed a large gathering of devotees for the celebrated Panchamaha Rathotsava, marked by elaborate chariot processions.

Agency(Karnataka): The revered temple town of Nanjangud, often referred to as ‘Dakshina Kashi,’ was the focal point of devotion as thousands of faithful gathered for the Panchamaha Rathotsava, a significant religious festival celebrated with much fervor. This event, dedicated to Lord Srikanteshwara, is a highlight in the cultural and spiritual calendar of the Mysuru district, drawing participants from across the state and beyond.

The festival’s main attraction, the Panchamaha Rathotsava, features processions of five majestic chariots—dedicated to Gauthama, Parvathi, Ganesha, Subramanya, and Chandikeshwara—covering a route of approximately 1.5 kilometers through the town’s main streets. The procession commenced during the auspicious Meena Lagna, between 6:30 and 6:50 am, concluding with the chariots returning to their starting points by around 8:30 am.

In anticipation of the large crowds and to ensure the festival’s smooth and safe conduct, the district administration implemented comprehensive security measures. Precautions included the deployment of fire brigade units and ambulances in strategic locations around the temple area. The Panchamaha Rathotsava stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage and devout spirit of the region, bringing together a diverse community of worshippers in a vibrant celebration of faith and tradition.
