Agency(New Delhi): The Bharatiya Janata Party’s nominee for the Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, has openly declared his intentions to tailor a distinctive developmental roadmap for Mysuru and Kodagu. His plan aims to be in harmony with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious ‘Viksit Bharat’ initiative, targeted for the centenary celebration of India’s independence in 2047. Launching the party’s manifesto outreach, ‘Sankalpa Patra Abhiyana’, in Mysuru, Yaduveer underscored his political debut as a commitment towards the advancement of these regions, with an aspiration for backing from the central government in this venture.

Addressing queries about the weight of expectations stemming from his royal heritage, Wadiyar interprets these anticipations as positive pressure, pledging to tackle them head-on. He reminisced about the longstanding respect his lineage commands across Karnataka, attributing it to his ancestors’ dedication towards the state’s and Kannada language’s development. Despite being a newcomer in the political arena, Yaduveer emphasized his deep-rooted connection with the people of Mysuru, Kodagu, and beyond, nurtured over nine years.

In light of his familial history with the Congress party—his father, Srikantadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, having been a four-time MP under its banner—and the amicable relations maintained with leaders across the political spectrum, Yaduveer clarified his alignment with the BJP. He cited a shared ideology and principles with the party as the driving force behind his decision, dismissing any potential conflicts regarding his royal status in the democratic framework.

Yaduveer also tackled questions about his continuation of royal traditions, stating his role in performing ancestral rituals during festivals like Dasara as a family obligation. He announced plans to establish an office outside the Mysuru Palace to foster accessibility, leveraging modern technology to maintain constant communication with the populace. Additionally, he addressed speculations about his political aspirations lacking his mother, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar’s support, affirming her blessings and guidance in all his endeavors.

The announcement was made in the presence of significant BJP figures, including MLA T S Srivathsa and former minister S A Ramadass, highlighting a united front within the party. The discourse also touched upon MP Prathap Simha’s stance following his replacement by Yaduveer, with Simha reflecting on his journey from journalism to politics through the BJP platform, subtly addressing inquiries about any potential shift to Congress.
