President Murmu Highlights Student Suicides, Calls for Positive Intervention

President Droupadi Murmu speaks on the "very serious issue" of student suicides and urges society to help students deal with negativity and study pressure positively.

New Delhi (Agency): In a recent speech in Raipur, President Droupadi Murmu openly discussed her concerns about the alarming issue of students taking their own lives. She called for combined efforts from all sectors of society to help students fight against negative thinking and better manage the pressures of study.

Speaking at the state-level launch of ‘Sakaratmak Parivartan Ka Varsh’ (Year of Positive Change) organized by Brahma Kumaris at Shanti Sarovar Retreat Centre, President Murmu appealed to teachers, family members, and society. “Every individual has a unique talent,” she said, urging people to understand the psychology of students and assist them in finding the right direction in life.

“Victory and defeat are part of life,” Murmu said, adding that short-term failures often set the stage for major successes in the future. She mentioned the recent tragic cases of two students in Rajasthan who were preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and took their own lives. “I am pained when students develop negative thinking and take such extreme steps,” she expressed.

Murmu further emphasized the role of competition as a positive factor that can improve lives. However, she pointed out that this should not escalate into a dangerous level of stress for students. “All stakeholders should work in the direction of supporting students to beat negative thinking and take study pressure in a positive way,” she added.

The President applauded the work of Brahma Kumaris, a spiritual organization, in guiding society towards a positive path. She said programs like ‘Sakaratmak Parivartan Ka Varsh’ could serve as useful platforms for students to overcome negative thinking. “Brahma Kumaris are working tirelessly to spread love, harmony, and peace in the world,” Murmu noted.

In a tech-dominated era, the President also advised people to spend some time away from electronic gadgets for the sake of their mental and physical well-being. She encouraged everyone to focus on personal growth through positive work and thoughts. “By awakening the inner self, one can increase capabilities. With positive thinking and actions, not only our own lives but also the lives of people around us can be improved,” she said.

President Murmu concluded by asserting that it is everyone’s responsibility to bring about positive change. “If you are dreaming of Ram Rajya, then you will have to become Ram and Sita and head in the same direction to make the country a ‘Vishwa Guru’,” she added.

The President’s call comes at a time when mental health challenges among young people are receiving increasing attention. Her words serve as an urgent reminder of the collective responsibility society holds in helping its younger members navigate the complexities and pressures of modern life.
