He congratulated the agency on this landmark achievement and expressed gratitude towards Ireland and France for co-chairing the event.

The Prime Minister emphasized India’s position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, underlining the critical role of energy security and sustainability in supporting this growth. He proudly noted India’s ascent from the 11th to the 5th largest economy in a decade, paralleled by a remarkable twenty-six-fold increase in solar energy capacity and a doubling of renewable energy capacity. He highlighted India’s achievement in exceeding its Paris commitments ahead of schedule.

Addressing the global audience, the Prime Minister pointed out that despite being home to 17% of the world population, India’s carbon emissions account for only 4% of the global total. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to combating climate change through collective and proactive approaches. India’s leadership in initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and the Mission LiFE, which emphasizes pro-planet lifestyle choices, was underscored. He reminded the audience that principles of ‘Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle’ are ingrained in India’s traditional way of life. The Prime Minister also mentioned significant actions taken during India’s G20 Presidency, including the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance, thanking the IEA for its support in this initiative.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of inclusivity in enhancing the credibility and capability of institutions. He expressed confidence that the IEA would benefit from India’s increased participation, given its 1.4 billion population’s talent, technology, innovation, scale, and speed. He extended his best wishes for the success of the IEA Ministerial Meeting and called for leveraging the platform to strengthen existing partnerships and form new ones, aiming to build a cleaner, greener, and more inclusive world.
