EPFO Official Arrested by CBI for Allegedly Accepting Rs 12 Lakh Bribe

New Delhi (Agency):  In a major development, an enforcement officer of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 12 lakh to settle a penalty against a hospital manager. The arrest took place after the manager of a multi-speciality hospital in the national capital lodged a complaint.

The accused, identified as Rishi Raj, is employed at the East Regional Office of EPFO. According to officials, the CBI caught him red-handed during the operation. The investigation was initiated following the complaint filed by the hospital manager, who accused Raj of conducting an inspection and pointing out numerous irregularities in the hospital's records. Raj allegedly threatened to impose a penalty of approximately Rs 15 crore on the hospital.

"A trap was laid, and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 12 lakh. Searches were also conducted at the premises of the accused," stated a spokesperson from the CBI. The spokesperson further revealed that during negotiations, Raj had initially demanded 20 percent of the penalty amount as a bribe, but it was eventually settled at Rs 12 lakh.
