Court in Azamgarh Acquits Afghan National in Fake Passport Case

New Delhi (Agency): A local court in Azamgarh has acquitted an Afghan national, Kiramat Ullah Ahmadzai, in a fake passport case due to insufficient evidence. The court also directed the police to take action against the investigating officer, Kamla Shankar Giri, for not conducting a proper investigation.

The prosecution’s case was based on the arrest of Kiramat Ullah Ahmadzai on February 2, 2020, during patrolling in the Phulpur area. The police alleged that Ahmadzai was seen with another person, Sahibe Alam, who had been arrested earlier for making a fake passport. Subsequently, a charge sheet was filed against Ahmadzai after completing the investigation.

During the court proceedings, a total of eight witnesses were presented by the prosecution, including investigator Kamla Shankar Giri. After considering the arguments from both sides, the court concluded that there was insufficient evidence to prove that Ahmadzai had been involved in making or possessing a fake passport.

As a result, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Anita acquitted Kiramat Ullah Ahmadzai on Saturday. Alongside the acquittal, the court directed the Director General of Police and the District Superintendent of Police of Azamgarh to take disciplinary action against the investigating officer Kamla Shankar Giri for negligence in conducting the investigation.
