Congress to Celebrate “Adivasi Gaurav Parva” on August 9 to Stand in Solidarity with Tribals**

New Delhi (Agency): In response to the growing unease among tribal communities across India, accentuated by the recent violence in Manipur, the Congress party has taken a step forward to express solidarity with them by announcing the celebration of “Adivasi Gaurav Parva” on August 9.

The party has issued instructions to all state units to organize elaborate programs on that day to honor and support the Adivasi communities in their struggle against the persistent erosion of their rights and identity over the past years.

In a letter addressed to all Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs), the General Secretary in charge of the organization, K.C. Venugopal, stated: “On the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, on August 9, 2023, the Indian National Congress wishes to express the party’s immense admiration for our Adivasi communities and support them in their fight against the consistent erosion of their rights and identity over the past nine years.”

The Congress party has been voicing its concern about the Narendra Modi government’s dilution of the Forest Rights Act despite protests by tribals. Venugopal emphasized: “We are all witness to how the present BJP regime is insulting, humiliating, and harassing the tribal communities, and also depriving them of their legitimate rights. It has been the Congress party which is consistently standing by them and raising their voice at various forums.”

The proposed “Adivasi Gaurav Parva” is expected to be a significant event aiming to honor the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities and recognize their role as torch-bearers of a sustainable world. The program will include various activities such as an “Adivasi Gaurav Mahasabha” at a historically significant place for Adivasis, a mega rally to highlight the Congress’s contributions towards the betterment of Adivasis, and the BJP’s failures towards Adivasi welfare.

Moreover, the event will witness the formation of a State Adivasi Forum, hosting an Adivasi Intellectuals’ Forum Conference to engage with thinkers, academicians, activists, and students from Adivasi communities. Congress party workers will take a pledge called “Sanrakshan Pratigya,” reaffirming their commitment to stand with the tribals.

In addition to the above, meetings and conferences will be organized in Assembly constituencies to demonstrate the inclusive politics of the Congress and its commitment to preserving the country’s cultural diversity. Cultural events showcasing the unique traditions, music, dance, and arts of Adivasi communities will be held, involving local influencers in the state.

The central leadership has also suggested community dinners as a gesture of goodwill, providing an opportunity for members of the community to engage in meaningful dialogue. To further emphasize the fight for Adivasi rights, a “Mashaal Yatra” or a candle-light protest march will be held at night.

Tensions have been on the rise in various parts of the country, and the situation in Manipur has added to the concerns of the tribal communities. The Congress party’s initiative of “Adivasi Gaurav Parva” seeks to not only show solidarity but also bring attention to the challenges faced by Adivasis and advocate for their rights.

The celebration on August 9 will be a crucial day for the Congress party to stand with the tribal communities and demonstrate its commitment to supporting them in their struggle for a just and equitable society. Through a series of events and gatherings, the Congress aims to highlight the importance of preserving the cultural diversity and heritage of Adivasis while denouncing any attempts to undermine their rights.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how “Adivasi Gaurav Parva” will be received by the public and the impact it may have on the ongoing discussions around tribal welfare and rights in India. Nonetheless, the Congress party’s efforts to address the concerns of tribal communities reflect the significance of their voices and the need to protect their rights in a rapidly changing world.
