Cities Becoming Investment Hotspots Through Urban Planning Reforms: Hardeep Puri

New Delhi (Agency): Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri spoke on Thursday about the impact of urban planning reforms on cities. According to him, these changes are making cities more attractive to investments.

During the opening ceremony of the two-day National Urban Planning Conclave, Minister Puri emphasized the need for a complete policy environment. This environment should ensure easy access to services, improved operational efficiencies, area-based planning, the integration of digital technology, ease of doing business, and outcome-based performance frameworks.

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said that the two-day conference would feature a total of 24 presentations. Among the key speakers are chief town planners from various states. Leading academics in urban planning will moderate four technical sessions. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics such as transit-oriented development, transferable development rights, local area plans and town planning scheme, affordable housing, environmentally sustainable development, and more.

Minister Puri highlighted the housing and urban affairs missions’ success in significantly improving the quality of life in cities. He noted the missions have achieved this by providing everyone with access to water and sanitation, creating sustainable transportation infrastructure, and meeting affordable housing needs. Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore also spoke at the event. He expressed confidence in the readiness of various cities to implement these reforms through this platform by sharing knowledge and experiences.

The event also featured an exhibition where states, Union territories, and urban planning academic institutions displayed the projects they have carried out in various cities.
