CISF Deployed to Secure NGMA for G20 Exhibition Visits of Dignitaries

The Union Home Ministry has ordered the immediate deployment of an armed contingent of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to guard the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi. The NGMA will host special events and an exhibition for the spouses and family members of dignitaries attending the G20 Leaders' Summit.

New Delhi (Agency): The Union Home Ministry has directed the immediate deployment of an armed contingent from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to safeguard the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA). The NGMA, situated on an eight-acre plot near the India Gate hexagon in the heart of the national capital, will host special events and an exhibition for the spouses and family members of dignitaries attending the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The NGMA, a premier art institution for modern and contemporary Indian art under the Union Ministry of Culture, houses an extensive collection of artwork displayed across various gallery floors, an art shop, auditorium, preview theatre, and library.

To ensure the security of the facility during the G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for September 9-10, the CISF, a central armed police force (CAPF) under the Union Home Ministry, has been tasked with immediate deployment. While the facility currently relies on private security personnel, the CISF cover is expected to become a regular feature following this initial deployment for the G20 meeting.

The CISF holds expertise in securing vital installations in the art and culture domain, having long protected the National Museum in Delhi and the Indian Museum in Kolkata. As part of the security measures, a special exhibition titled “Roots and Routes: Past, Present and Continuous” is being curated at the Jaipur House within NGMA by the Ministry of Culture. The exhibition will coincide with the G20 Summit held under India’s presidency.

To enhance security and protect valuable artifacts, sculptures, and miniatures brought from various museums across the country, the CISF’s professional security cover has been extended to NGMA. This step ensures the protection of visiting foreign dignitaries and their families.

During the two-day Summit, the spouses and other family members of the dignitaries will also enjoy a special millets lunch at the NGMA facility. A dedicated team of approximately 50 armed and commando-trained CISF personnel will provide professional security by regulating entry and exit, conducting visitor checks, and safeguarding belongings. To enhance their capabilities, a quick reaction team (QRT) will be available to respond swiftly to major threats or potential sabotage incidents.

Equipped with door frame metal detectors, hand-held scanners, and X-ray baggage machines, the CISF force will effectively carry out their security tasks at the NGMA facility, ensuring a safe environment for the dignitaries and visitors.
