CBI Files Case Against Fraudster Posing as Prime Minister’s Office Official

The CBI lodges case against Pawan Patel for fraudulently posing as an official from the PMO and exploiting people financially.

New Delhi (Agency): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in India has lodged an official complaint, known as a First Information Report (FIR), against a man named Pawan Patel. Patel is accused of impersonating an official working in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), specifically in the tech-surveillance agency NTRO.

The CBI started their investigation following a six-month-old reference from the PMO, where a complaint was raised against Patel. The fraudulent individual was allegedly pretending to be a PMO official and asking for money in return for assistance in securing contracts.

A resident of Shahdara filed the complaint on the Union government’s grievance portal. The complainant stated that Patel was falsely claiming to be part of the “department which looks after the security for PMO Intelligence and is forging people by saying that he is working with the NTRO…”

Patel has been exploiting his fabricated “sensitive position” to extract money from individuals, promising to use his supposed influence in the PMO to help with tenders, according to the complainant. His scheme has been effective as victims don’t complain after he fails to deliver on his promises due to his alleged position.

Interestingly, when people received calls from Patel, his number would display as “PMO Intelligence NTRO” on Truecaller, a caller-identification application. The complainant also accused a retired IRS officer from the 1986 batch of aiding Patel in collecting money.

Following the serious allegations, the CBI has registered an FIR against Pawan Patel.
