BJP-AAP Clash Over Farmer Policy in Delhi

AAP, in its statement, highlighted its accomplishments in supporting farmers, including granting Rs 50,000 per hectare as crop damage compensation – the highest rate across all Indian states.

Delhi BJP attempts to submit a memorandum to CM Kejriwal, alleges police obstruction; AAP counters.

Agency(New Delhi): In a recent development in New Delhi, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation’s attempt to meet Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was thwarted, as they claimed the police hindered them from approaching his residence. The BJP delegation’s objective was to present a memorandum urging the adoption of a scheme favorable to farmers. However, their efforts were allegedly halted by law enforcement officers.

In response, the governing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) refuted these allegations, emphasizing its commitment to farmers’ welfare. AAP accused BJP of historically opposing farmer interests, citing instances like the controversial farm laws that led to widespread farmer protests and an alarming rise in farmer suicides nationwide.

Delhi BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva expressed the intention behind their planned meeting with CM Kejriwal was to peacefully advocate for the implementation of a land compensation scheme benefiting farmers, particularly addressing discontent in Ochandi and neighboring villages resulting from land acquisition. They urged the Delhi government to promptly establish and execute this scheme to address the farmers’ concerns.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, declared their intention to discuss the demand for a compensation policy benefiting Ochandi farmers in the upcoming Assembly session.

AAP, in its statement, highlighted its accomplishments in supporting farmers, including granting Rs 50,000 per hectare as crop damage compensation – the highest rate across all Indian states. They also mentioned their effort to increase circle rates, fulfilling a long-standing farmer demand, although this initiative was not sanctioned by the Lieutenant Governor. AAP assured that all essential needs of farmers are considered and will be addressed through appropriate implementations.

This standoff between BJP and AAP reflects the ongoing political tussle in the capital, centered around farmer welfare and policy implementation.
