Mumbai (Maharashtra): The third edition of India-Sweden Sustainability Day, organised by Business Sweden in partnership with the Consulate General of Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden, reaffirmed the two nations’ shared commitment to accelerating industrial decarbonization and advancing a resilient, net-zero future, an official release stated.
This year’s theme, “Enabling Conditions for Industrial Net-Zero,” highlighted Sweden’s continued leadership in global climate action and its growing collaboration with India to drive green transformation under Industry 4.0. Sweden has retained its position as a global innovation leader, ranking second in both the Global Innovation Index 2025 and the UN Sustainable Development Report 2025, reflecting its strong performance across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
With India targeting net-zero emissions by 2070 and seeking to build a value-added, decarbonised industrial ecosystem, Sweden has reiterated its commitment to co-develop scalable, future-ready sustainability solutions.
The event opened with remarks from Emil Akander, Vice President and Head of Region Asia-Pacific at Business Sweden, who emphasised the need to jointly foster systems that reduce industrial carbon footprints.
Sofia Hogman, Trade and Invest Commissioner of Sweden to India, added, “India-Sweden Sustainability Day stands as a testament to the shared vision of both nations to turn ambition into action. Through initiatives like the India-Sweden Green Transition Partnership (ISGTP), we are building an ecosystem where sustainability is integral to every industrial process.”
A joint welcome address by Sven Ostberg, Consul General of Sweden in Mumbai, and Agnes Julin, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden, underscored the growing importance of Indo-Swedish collaboration in decarbonization efforts.
Ostberg highlighted the partnership’s foundation in “trust, innovation, and a shared commitment to a greener, more equitable future,” while Julin reaffirmed Sweden’s longstanding support for India’s sustainability journey.
A central feature of the day was a panel discussion titled “Collaborating for Tomorrow: Building a Resilient Net-Zero Future,” moderated by Sofia Hogman. The panel included industry leaders such as Bharat Petroleum’s G.R. Senthilkumar, Grasim Industries’ Surya Valluri, and representatives from Alleima India, KraftPowercon Sweden AB, and Atlas Copco India. They shared practical insights on leveraging technology, policy frameworks, and collaborative innovation to strengthen supply chains and accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral future.
The event also spotlighted successful partnership models, including Atlas Copco’s collaboration with Bharat Forge and Flir’s initiative with MSETCL, underscoring the growing number of joint Indo-Swedish impact projects.
Business Sweden, which has supported Swedish companies in India for more than 25 years, continues to play a key role in enabling market expansion. The organisation recently strengthened its India presence by opening a new office in Mumbai, enhancing Sweden’s engagement with the country’s financial and industrial hubs.
Over the years, sustained commitment from stakeholders in both nations has resulted in more than 20 strategic collaborations. Leveraging Sweden’s Triple Helix Model—a framework promoting cooperation among industry, academia, and government—these initiatives aim to accelerate the transition to net-zero through knowledge-sharing platforms, expert forums, and business partnerships.
The event also witnessed the release of the Sweden-India Business Guide 2025, detailing a long-term roadmap for bilateral industrial and sustainability collaborations. The day concluded with renewed pledges to deepen cooperation in circular economy practices, enhance resource efficiency, and scale clean energy solutions for sustainable, inclusive growth.
