Bengaluru – In a major push toward establishing India as a global leader in next-generation telecom, Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia convened a high-level review meeting with the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) during his recent visit to Bengaluru. The Minister addressed key stakeholders, including researchers, industry leaders, and international partners, laying out an ambitious roadmap to position India at the forefront of 6G innovation.

For the first time in history, India is actively shaping global telecom standards, Minister Scindia emphasized, crediting the transformation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Anusandhan (research), Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), and the “Make in India – Make for the World” initiative.

India has set its sights on contributing 10% of global 6G patents, backed by Rs 239 crore in research funding across 111 projects. The Minister highlighted major milestones, including the fact that 99% of mobile phones are now manufactured domestically, telecom equipment import substitution has reached 60%, and India has successfully developed its own indigenous 4G and 5G technology stacks.

Calling the Bharat 6G Alliance a “force with the computing power of a million GPUs,” Scindia applauded the Alliance’s growing momentum. With over 80 active members and seven specialized working groups, B6GA is emerging as a vibrant center of innovation and global collaboration.

In an interactive session with stakeholders, the Minister urged them to take ownership of India’s 6G mission. “In PM Modi’s India, the government is not in the driver’s seat — you are,” he said. He called for a focused three-to-four-year roadmap, broken into monthly deliverables and reviewed every six months to ensure steady progress.

Scindia emphasized that the Bharat 6G Alliance must act as the foundational ecosystem builder, guiding India’s shift from a knowledge-based economy to a global telecom powerhouse.

The meeting follows the inaugural joint session of the Alliance’s seven working groups held in September 2024, also chaired by the Minister. These groups cover key domains such as Spectrum, Technology, Devices, Use Cases, Sustainability, Applications, and Outreach — all vital components in building a future-ready 6G ecosystem for India.
