New Delhi:
In another incident involving the killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, Shomir Kumar Das, a resident of Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni district, was murdered on January 11, according to local police.

Feni Superintendent of Police Shafiqul Islam said the victim had left his home on Sunday night in his autorickshaw but later went missing. His body was recovered around 2 am.
“Shomir Kumar Das went out with his autorickshaw after 8 pm, but there was no trace of him thereafter. His body was found after 2 am,” Islam told over the phone.

Police officials reached the spot, recovered the body, and completed necessary legal formalities. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
“We have not yet been able to identify any suspects or make arrests, but inquiries are ongoing,” the police official added.

Reacting to the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Bangladesh’s interim government, alleging continued targeting of religious minorities and a failure to curb such incidents.

In a post on social media platform X, Malviya accused the interim government of not taking adequate steps to protect Hindus and other minorities, including Christians and Buddhists, and of failing to offer reassurance to affected communities.
“The interim government has made no effort to rein in the tormentors of Hindus and other religious minorities. Nor has it offered even a word of solace,” he wrote.

Referring to the killing of Shomir Kumar Das, Malviya claimed that the attackers also looted his autorickshaw, which he described as the victim’s sole source of livelihood. He said the incident reflected what he termed sustained persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh following the formation of what he called the “unelected Yunus regime.”

Malviya also drew a parallel with West Bengal politics, warning that if Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee returns to power in the 2026 state elections, the situation for Hindu Bengalis in the state would be “no different, and possibly worse,” citing previous incidents of violence.

The investigation into the killing of Shomir Kumar Das remains ongoing, with Bangladeshi authorities yet to identify the perpetrators.
