Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh):
Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Babita Singh Chauhan on Wednesday declined to comment on the reported divorce dispute involving the commission’s Vice Chairperson Aparna Yadav and her husband Prateek Yadav, describing it as a “private family matter.”
Chauhan said Aparna Yadav, who is also a BJP leader and the daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has not approached the Women’s Commission regarding the issue.
“I think it is her family matter. Regarding the Women’s Commission, she herself is a part of it and takes decisions here. She has not come to the commission with this issue, and she is capable of handling her own matters,” Chauhan said.
She added that if any formal complaint is made in the future, the commission would take it up. “If anything happens, then we will discuss it. But she has not said anything of that sort. She is capable and can take her own decisions,” the chairperson said.
The remarks come amid controversy sparked by a series of social media posts by Prateek Yadav on Instagram, in which he announced his intention to divorce Aparna Yadav. In his posts, he alleged that she had damaged his family relationships and prioritised fame over personal ties.
Prateek Yadav accused her of breaking his relationships with his parents and brother, calling her “self-interested” and alleging that she wanted to become famous and influential. In one post, he referred to her as a “family destroyer” and said he wanted to divorce her “as soon as possible.”
“I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. Right now I am in very bad mental health condition and she doesn’t bother,” one of his posts read.
He further claimed that he was unfortunate to have married her, making several personal allegations against her in multiple posts.
So far, Aparna Yadav or any member of her family has not issued an official statement in response to the allegations.
