Bengaluru: Girias, one of South India’s oldest and most recognizable consumer electronics and home appliance retail chains, has come under sharp criticism from customers who allege poor after-sales service, misleading promises, and long delays in addressing complaints.
Several buyers across Bengaluru and other cities have reported that while the company aggressively markets its “lowest price guarantee” and “customer-first approach,” the reality is far from the promise. Complaints pouring in on consumer forums highlight instances of delayed product deliveries, improper installations, and repeated failures in honoring warranty claims.
A resident of Jayanagar alleged that even after purchasing a premium refrigerator, the installation was delayed for over three weeks despite repeated follow-ups. “They promised free installation and quick service, but after taking full payment, no one bothered to respond. The customer care numbers are either switched off or redirect endlessly,” she said.
Another customer from Rajajinagar expressed frustration after his washing machine developed a fault within the first month. “I was assured immediate replacement. Instead, I was made to run from pillar to post between Girias staff and the company service center. Nobody takes responsibility. The salespeople vanish once the sale is done,” he complained.
Consumer review portals such as Mouthshut and public complaint boards are replete with similar experiences, ranging from non-delivery of promised freebies, misleading discounts, and rude behavior by staff. Many allege that while Girias has built its name over decades, its current customer service standards are “shockingly poor.”
Experts believe that in today’s competitive retail environment, where online platforms and organized chains offer reliable service, such repeated complaints could erode trust in traditional brick-and-mortar giants like Girias.
Consumer rights activists are now calling for stricter monitoring of such retail practices. “Companies cannot mislead customers with tall claims and then abandon them after purchase. The government and consumer protection bodies must take suo motu cognizance of these repeated violations,” said a Bengaluru-based activist.
As dissatisfaction grows, Girias faces a challenge to restore its image. Without urgent steps to address customer grievances transparently and efficiently, the trusted family name risks losing its credibility in an already crowded marketplace.
