New Delhi: India’s cricket head coach and former BJP Member of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir, has approached Delhi Police after reportedly receiving death threats from a group identifying itself as “ISIS Kashmir”.
Gambhir received two threatening emails on April 22 — one in the afternoon and another later that evening — both ominously stating “IKillU”. Disturbed by the messages, he filed a formal complaint and urged the Rajinder Nagar Police Station and Central Delhi DCP to register a First Information Report (FIR) and ensure enhanced security for him and his family.
This isn’t the first time Gambhir has been targeted. A similar threat was made in November 2021 during his tenure as a sitting MP.
The latest incident comes a day after Gambhir publicly condemned a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed by militants in the Baisaran meadow — one of the deadliest civilian attacks since the 2019 Pulwama tragedy. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Gambhir wrote:
“Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
Delhi Police are currently investigating the threat and are expected to step up security measures for the cricketer-turned-politician.
