Raipur: An FIR has been filed against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, following her alleged derogatory remarks targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to police, the complaint was lodged at the Mana Camp police station on August 30 by a local resident, Gopal Samanto.

Moitra reportedly stated that Amit Shah’s “head should be cut off” due to his failure to curb the infiltration of illegal Bangladeshis into India. The FIR has been registered under Sections 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Her remarks sparked widespread political backlash. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai condemned the comments, calling them a “serious criminal act” and demanding action from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In a post on X, Sai urged Banerjee to take punitive action against Moitra and issue a public apology.

Congress leader TS Singh Deo also criticized the remarks, stating, “Such objectionable statements are not acceptable, especially when directed at the Home Minister.”

BJP leader Nitin Nabin claimed Moitra’s comments reflect the “violence” among the ruling elite in Bengal. He alleged that efforts are underway to “change the demography of Bengal,” and praised Amit Shah for addressing these issues despite opposition.

Mahua Moitra, a controversial figure in Indian politics, was previously expelled from the Lok Sabha in December 2023 after the House adopted the Ethics Committee’s findings in the cash-for-query case against her.
