New Delhi: In a major crackdown on organised cyber-enabled and telecom-related fraud, the Special Staff of the Central District, Delhi Police, has busted a racket involved in the illegal assembly and sale of fake premium Samsung mobile phones in the Karol Bagh area.
According to police, the gang was assembling high-end Samsung models, including Ultra, Fold and Flip variants, using spare parts and accessories imported from China. The phones were fitted with fake IMEI numbers and sold in the open market as genuine Samsung handsets, cheating unsuspecting customers.
Four accused, including the kingpin of the operation, were arrested from a shop in Beadonpura, Karol Bagh. Police also recovered a large consignment of counterfeit premium mobile phones and components during the raid.
On December 13, the Special Staff received specific intelligence that a shop in Beadonpura was purchasing stolen or used mobile phones and illegally assembling new-looking premium Samsung phones using old motherboards and imported parts. Fake IMEI stickers were being pasted on the devices before selling them as brand-new phones.
Given the organised nature of the crime, a dedicated police team was formed. Acting on the tip-off, the team conducted a late-night raid at the shop, where all four accused were caught red-handed assembling mobile phones. A detailed search of the premises led to the recovery of a large quantity of fully assembled and semi-assembled phones, along with spare parts and tools.
Police seized 512 high-end Samsung premium phones, particularly Fold and Flip models, along with 124 motherboards, 138 mobile batteries, 459 fake IMEI stickers marked “Made in Vietnam,” and a substantial quantity of mobile accessories and specialised assembly equipment.
All four accused failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the recovered items and were subsequently arrested. A case has been registered under FIR No. 1483/2025 dated December 14, 2025, under relevant sections of the Telecommunication Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Karol Bagh Police Station.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that the mastermind, who owns the shop, had studied only up to Class 8 and had no formal technical qualifications. He allegedly imported Samsung spare parts, including motherboards, cameras, speakers, body frames, back glass panels and fake IMEI stickers from China. With the help of his employees, he assembled counterfeit Samsung Ultra, Fold and Flip phones to meet high market demand.
The fake handsets were sold as genuine Samsung devices at prices ranging between ₹35,000 and ₹40,000 per unit, generating significant illegal profits.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain, identify buyers, and dismantle the entire network involved in the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit premium mobile phones.
