New Chapter on National War Memorial Added to Class VII NCERT Curriculum

The Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education add a chapter on the National War Memorial to Class VII curriculum to instill values of patriotism and sacrifice in students.

New Delhi (Agency): In a move designed to instill a sense of patriotism and respect for the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education have together added a new chapter to the NCERT curriculum for Class VII. Titled ‘A Homage to our Brave Soldiers,’ the chapter aims to help students understand the importance of national service and sacrifice.

The chapter will provide insights into the history, significance, and concept behind the National War Memorial (NWM). It will also highlight the immense sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces after the country gained independence. In a unique storytelling approach, the chapter uses letters exchanged between two friends to express gratitude for the freedoms they enjoy today, thanks to the sacrifices of the military personnel.

By introducing this chapter, the government hopes to have a “deep emotional impact and connect” on the minds and hearts of young students. It aims to make them aware of the sacrifices made by the country’s brave soldiers and inspire them to take part in nation-building.

The National War Memorial, situated in New Delhi, was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on February 25, 2019. The memorial was established to instill a sense of sacrifice and national spirit among the people. It serves as a tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in defense of the nation.

The addition of this chapter comes at a time when the country is keen to build a stronger sense of national identity and unity among its youth. The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education believe that understanding the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces will help inculcate the values of devotion to duty, courage, and sacrifice in the young minds.
