MBBS Student Detained as Proxy Candidate in Rajasthan NEET Scam

An MBBS student impersonating a NEET aspirant was detained with five others in Rajasthan, unveiling a larger racket in proxy exam-taking.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Rajasthan): In Bharatpur, Rajasthan, an MBBS student, Abhishek Gupta, was detained on Sunday after being caught impersonating a NEET aspirant during the national medical entrance exam. Five accomplices, including the actual candidate, were also detained, indicating a larger proxy candidate racket.

Police investigations revealed that Abhishek Gupta was part of a scheme managed by his classmate, Ravi Meena, who allegedly accepted Rs 10 lakh from candidate Rahul Gurjar in exchange for taking his exam. Gupta attempted to sit for the test as Gurjar, but his behavior raised suspicions, leading the exam supervisor to involve the police.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aklesh Kumar reported that Gupta was accompanied by five individuals waiting in a car outside the Master Adityendra School exam center. The group included Ravi Meena, Rahul Gurjar, and associates Amit, Dayaram, and Suraj Singh, who were all detained and are currently being questioned.

In a separate incident in Sawai Madhopur, candidates reported receiving question papers in incorrect languages. Those who opted for English were given Hindi papers and vice versa. The candidates’ parents claimed they were mistreated by police when they protested this mix-up.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) acknowledged the error, issuing a public notice stating that the misdistribution was due to an oversight by the examination center superintendent. Sadhna Parashar, Senior Director of NTA, assured the public that around 120 affected candidates would receive a fair opportunity to retake the exam.

“To maintain fairness and equal opportunity, the NTA is ensuring that the approximately 120 impacted candidates will not have their academic goals affected by this incident,” she said.
