Agency(New Delhi): Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, proudly announced the completion of 31 flyovers by the AAP administration over the past nine years, enhancing the quality of life for its residents. During the opening ceremony of a newly constructed three-lane flyover in Moti Nagar, Kejriwal highlighted its significant impact on reducing commute times and alleviating traffic congestion. He stated, “Earlier, it used to take half an hour to travel half a kilometre. With the construction of the new flyover, this will be covered within three minutes. We have built around 31 flyovers since we came to power.”

Kejriwal emphasized the efficiency and ambition of his government by comparing its achievements with those of its predecessors over 75 years, claiming, “What the previous governments have done in 75 years, we have done more in the last nine years. All it takes is the will to do the work.” He mentioned that while the Moti Nagar flyover plays a significant role, the major focus remains on the upcoming Club Road flyover, expected to be operational by July, noting the construction timelines of these projects.

The AAP’s contributions extend beyond transportation, including substantial improvements in public services such as free electricity, high-quality education, healthcare reforms, and additional amenities like mohalla clinics and free bus rides for women. These efforts collectively underscore the government’s commitment to creating a more equitable society.

The Moti Nagar flyover, constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD) on the Moti Nagar Ring Road, aims to facilitate smoother travel from Dhaula Kuan to Azadpur and Rohtak, marking a significant step towards reducing the city’s notorious traffic congestion. Delhi’s PWD Minister, Atishi, further elaborated on the environmental and economic benefits of this project, forecasting a yearly saving of over six lakh litres of fuel and a considerable decrease in carbon dioxide emissions, thanks to the reduced traffic congestion. She noted, “The flyover will be used by more than 1.25 lakh vehicles a day and it will eliminate traffic congestion, the speed of the vehicles will increase on this stretch and it will help the people of Delhi save more than six lakh litres of fuel every year.”

Atishi also reflected on the broader impact of such infrastructure projects on Delhi’s standing in terms of traffic congestion, highlighting the city’s improvement from fourth to 44th place, a testament to the effective strategies employed by the AAP government to combat urban traffic challenges. This progress, she pointed out, has been achieved despite the growing number of vehicles, showcasing the pivotal role of new urban infrastructure in enhancing the city’s livability and economic prosperity.
