Haridwar: Thousands of devotees gathered at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima to take a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Ganga River.
Sharing her experience with, devotee Shobha Gosain said the massive gathering reminded her of the Kumbh Mela. “It was a wonderful experience to take a dip in the Ganga, which cleanses both body and mind. The crowd and atmosphere were vibrant, just like the Kumbh. Witnessing the Ganga Aarti was mesmerizing. I prayed to Ganga Maa to fulfill everyone’s wishes,” she said.
Another devotee, Rakesh Kumar, praised the arrangements, saying, “It feels amazing to be here. The discipline and dedication of the police are commendable, and the parking arrangements are well managed.”
Kartik Purnima, celebrated on the full moon day of the Kartik month, holds great significance in Hindu tradition. The day marks the birth of Lord Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees across India observe the occasion with devotion—lighting lamps, decorating temples, taking ritual baths in holy rivers, and participating in religious fairs.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti, urging citizens to draw inspiration from the teachings of the first Sikh Guru.
“The life and message of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji continue to guide humanity with timeless wisdom. His teachings of compassion, equality, humility, and service are truly inspiring. Greetings on his Parkash Purab. May his divine light keep illuminating our planet forever,” PM Modi wrote on social media platform X.
In Amritsar, devotees took a dip in the Amrit Sarovar at the Golden Temple and offered prayers, while in Delhi and Mumbai, people gathered at gurdwaras to pay homage to Guru Nanak Dev Ji on his birth anniversary.
