New Delhi: Delhi Police have uncovered a major espionage racket with the arrest of a high-profile suspect in the Seemapuri area of the capital, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Adil Hussaini (59), also known by several aliases including Syed Adil Hussain, Mohammad Adil Hussaini, and Nasimuddin. A resident of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, Adil was apprehended following intelligence inputs regarding suspicious activities.
According to police sources, Adil and his brother, Akhtar Hussaini, are suspected of providing sensitive information to foreign entities and obtaining multiple Indian passports using forged documents. During the arrest, officers recovered one genuine and two forged passports from his possession.
Investigators revealed that Adil had travelled to several countries — including Pakistan — using fake documents. His frequent trips to sensitive destinations and possession of forged identification raised concerns about possible espionage activities.
Authorities have secured a seven-day police custody remand to further probe the case. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other central agencies have also joined the investigation to verify Adil’s foreign connections and determine whether he was working with any foreign intelligence network.
“His movements, financial transactions, and communications are under close scrutiny,” a senior Delhi Police official said, adding that further inquiries are underway to uncover the full extent of the espionage network.
Further investigation is in progress.
