New Delhi: In a strong show of support for the Centre’s initiatives to promote fitness and a sporting culture, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood on Sunday took part in the 25th edition of the ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ campaign in Janakpuri.
Speaking at the event, Sood commended the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bolster the nation’s sports ecosystem. “Through initiatives like the Fit India Movement and Khelo India, Modi ji has inspired people across the country to adopt a healthy lifestyle,” said Sood. “Today, hundreds of residents, including youth, schoolchildren, and senior citizens from the Janakpuri area, joined the cycling event to advance this national movement.”
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya also participated in the event, alongside actor Sharvari Wagh. “This 25th edition is being held simultaneously at over 5,000 locations across India,” Mandaviya said. “We are dedicating this special edition to the brave soldiers of Operation Sindoor.”
Launched in December 2024, the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative under the Fit India Movement has rapidly gained momentum, reaching over 5,500 locations and drawing more than 3 lakh participants to date. The campaign has also recorded over 3.44 billion digital impressions, with widespread support from public figures such as Sania Mirza, Milind Soman, Emraan Hashmi, John Abraham, Imtiaz Ali, Shankar Mahadevan, and the late Dara Singh.
Events under the campaign are regularly hosted at Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres and Khelo India Centres (KICs), offering community wellness activities like Zumba, rope-skipping, guided yoga sessions, and free health check-ups by experts from the National Centre of Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR).
With World Bicycle Day approaching on June 3, this weekend’s cycling event also served as a tribute to India’s armed forces, further promoting the message of cycling as a sustainable and fitness-friendly mode of transportation.
