New Delhi: In a Bollywood-style property fraud, a husband-wife duo accused of duping multiple buyers by selling the same flat repeatedly has been arrested by Dwarka South Police Station, officials said on Friday.
The accused, Naresh Kumar Sikri (57) and Sharda Sikri (55), residents of Dwarka Sector-9, allegedly entered into fraudulent agreements with several unsuspecting buyers, collecting large sums of money for the same apartment. Police said the couple mortgaged the property and dishonestly sold it multiple times to raise funds, amassing an estimated ₹2–2.5 crore.
The case is linked to two cheating complaints registered in 2024 at Dwarka South Police Station under FIR No. 11/2024 and FIR No. 346/2024. Complainants alleged that the accused accepted payment for the flat but failed to execute the sale deed before absconding.
Following sustained technical surveillance and specific intelligence inputs, police tracked the couple to Greater Noida, where they were apprehended. During court proceedings, Sharda Sikri had been declared a Proclaimed Offender by the Dwarka Court. Both accused have now been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
Separate Case: Husband-Wife Duo Held for Mobile Snatching
In a separate incident in 2024, another husband-wife pair was arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly snatching a mobile phone.
The incident was reported to Jagat Puri Police Station through a PCR call. The complainant stated that two individuals riding a scooty snatched an Infinix mobile phone around 6 am near Vijay Sariya Shop on Main Road, Chander Nagar.
A case under Sections 356, 379, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code was registered, and an investigation was launched. CCTV footage analysis revealed that the scooty used in the crime had been reported stolen on May 4, 2024, under Section 379 IPC at Shakarpur Police Station.
Using technical surveillance and local intelligence, police identified the accused as Maroof Khan and his wife Shahida, alias Soni. A raid was conducted, leading to their arrest. The stolen mobile phone and the scooty used in the crime were recovered and seized.
