Railway Police Apprehend Trio for Drugging and Robbing Train Passengers

Inter-state gang sedated victims with badam milk, robbing them; apprehended following investigation into November complaint.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Jodhpur): Prompted by a complaint lodged by a couple from Jodhpur last November, reporting the theft of 120 grams of gold valuables and ₹20,000 in cash, law enforcement initiated an investigation. Tracking the suspects through their tatkal tickets, a police team led by Soumyalatha S.K., Superintendent of Police, Railways, apprehended the prime accused, Mohammed Shaukat, 55, along with his accomplices Mohammed Sattar, 51, from Kolkata, and Mohammed Awad, 58, from Mathura.

The accused had furnished false mobile phone numbers while procuring tickets, complicating the investigative process. However, leveraging tower data analysis, authorities identified operational mobile numbers in Raichur and Puttaparthi, ultimately leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

It was revealed that the gang targeted passengers on trains with extended travel durations, particularly those originating from northern regions. Employing a modus operandi involving befriending unsuspecting victims and offering them drugged beverages towards the end of the journey, the criminals incapacitated their targets, facilitating the theft of valuables without resistance.

Initial findings indicate Shaukat’s involvement in multiple cases registered at railway police stations in Thiruvananthapuram, Nagercoil, and Garden Reach, Kolkata. Law enforcement agencies across states have been alerted, eager to take custody of the accused for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
