Poll Loss May Prompt Siddu’s Resignation

Congress MLA S R Srinivas warns that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah might resign if Congress doesn't secure the most Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency(Bengaluru): In the political corridors of Bengaluru, Congress MLA S R Srinivas, also known as Vasu and a former minister, has ignited discussions about the potential resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This speculation arises from the impending Lok Sabha elections, where the performance of the Congress party in Karnataka is under intense scrutiny. Srinivas boldly stated that should the Congress party fail to win the majority of Lok Sabha seats in the state, Siddaramaiah would need to “own moral responsibility and resign.”

This statement has thrown fuel on the speculative fires regarding a leadership shuffle within the Congress post-elections. Notably, Srinivas is not the lone voice within the party to suggest such an outcome. Addressing a campaign gathering in the Tumkur Lok Sabha constituency, Srinivas, representing Gubbi, emphasized the collective responsibility to “save Siddaramaiah,” whom he praised for his dedication to the welfare of the poor and oppressed segments of society.

Siddaramaiah’s response to these remarks was one of reserve, indicating his desire to understand the context of Srinivas’s statement before making any public reaction. This development follows comments made earlier in the year by Siddaramaiah’s son, Dr. Yathindra, asserting his father’s capability to complete his term without obstacles, contingent on the Congress’s performance in the Lok Sabha seats within the state.

Echoing Srinivas’s sentiments, fellow Congress lawmaker from Tumakuru and Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna has repeatedly voiced concerns over the party’s continuity in governance should the Lok Sabha election results not tilt in their favor.
