Agency (Karnataka): The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has approved the establishment of a new industrial park covering 647 acres in Sarjapur, Bengaluru, aiming to address the growing demand from industries seeking to set up operations in the city. Despite potential opposition due to conflicting with the city’s decongestion plan, KIADB highlights the necessity of additional industrial space in Bengaluru. The proposed township will span six villages in the Sarjapur hobli of Anekal taluk.

While some stakeholders express concerns about land acquisition and environmental implications, the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) welcomes the initiative, emphasizing the importance of adequate amenities for industrial development. KIADB assures fair compensation to land-losers in line with the 2014 Act, but critics question the rationale behind acquiring fertile land amid existing water scarcity challenges, suggesting alternative strategies for industrial growth.
