Agency (Rajkot): The Gujarat High Court sharply criticized the state government and the Rajkot municipal corporation regarding their handling of a catastrophic fire at the TRP game zone, which claimed approximately 35 lives. This incident led to heightened scrutiny of game zones across the state.
Dhaval Thakkar, a key figure associated with the TRP game zone, was apprehended by the Gujarat police from Abu Road in Rajasthan. Thakkar, a partner at Dhaval Corporation which managed the game zone alongside five partners from Raceway Enterprises, was the fourth arrest linked to this tragedy.
The arrests began with Yuvrajsinh Solanki and Rahul Rathod, partners at Raceway Enterprises, followed by the game zone’s manager, Nitin Jain. All were subsequently placed under a 14-day police custody by a Rajkot court.
In response to this disaster, the Gujarat High Court initiated a suo motu case, questioning the Rajkot municipal commissioner directly about his role in this “man-made disaster,” as reported by The Hindu.
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad City Police have launched a rigorous inspection of all game zones within the city, revealing that several were operating without the necessary permissions. The police have formed specialized teams to ensure compliance with safety standards, promising strict actions against any establishments found in violation.
In Godhra, further inspections were carried out by a team led by the Panchmahal district collector, focusing on four game zones. These inspections identified numerous safety infractions, particularly in terms of fire safety norms and general operational licenses, leading to immediate closures.
