50% Water Cut Imposed for Non-Compliant Bengaluru Establishments by March 31

Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board mandates aerator installation; non-compliance faces ₹5,000 fine and water cut.

The Aryavarth Express
Agency (Bengaluru):The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has issued a stern warning to establishments in the city, emphasizing the urgent need for aerator installation on all public taps by March 31. Those failing to comply face penalties including a ₹5,000 fine for initial offenses and a 50% reduction in water supply. BWSSB cites authority under section 53 of the BWSSB Act, 1964 for enforcing water cuts.

Initially proposing accredited plumber assistance post-March 31, BWSSB now intensifies enforcement, mandating strict compliance with aerator installation. Furthermore, BWSSB introduces a “green star rating” incentive for entities adopting water-saving measures, akin to ratings for restaurants and apartments.

Aerators, mandated for all non-drinking public taps in establishments such as restaurants, offices, and malls, promise significant water conservation benefits, with estimated savings ranging from 65-80%. BWSSB underscores the critical role of aerators in curbing water wastage and urges prompt action from affected entities to meet the impending deadline.
