The Aryavarth Express New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Delhi Police posted at Paschim Vihar police station for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on February 7 after allegations surfaced that the ASI had demanded Rs 25,000 in exchange for favouring the complainant’s brother in securing bail. The accused also allegedly threatened to falsely implicate the complainant in other cases if the bribe was not paid.
Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on February 7 and caught the ASI red-handed while accepting Rs 15,000. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
In a separate operation, the CBI on February 6 arrested an absconder, Krishnamurti Raghunath, from Bengaluru. Raghunath had been charge-sheeted in three bank fraud cases registered in Kolkata.
According to the agency, Raghunath, who was then Branch Manager of Bharat Overseas Bank Ltd. (now Indian Overseas Bank), Burrabazar Branch, Kolkata, allegedly conspired with others to open false current accounts in the names of fictitious firms and misappropriated bank funds, causing a wrongful loss of approximately Rs 38.25 lakh to the bank.
The accused had been evading arrest since 2005 and frequently changed his place of residence. The CBI said he was tracked and arrested based on human intelligence and technical inputs following a week-long operation across West Bengal, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
