New Delhi: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reaffirmed that the upcoming film Dhurandhar has no connection—direct or indirect—to the life of Ashoka Chakra awardee Late Major Mohit Sharma. The clarification follows a Delhi High Court directive asking the Board to review objections raised by the officer’s parents.
Acting on the Court’s December 1, 2025 order, the CBFC conducted a fresh evaluation and subsequently rejected the family’s concerns. According to the Board, Dhurandhar is “entirely fictional” and does not portray or resemble Major Sharma’s life, service, or military operations in any manner.
The CBFC also highlighted that the film carries a clear disclaimer stating that all characters and events are fictitious. Officials noted that the Examining Committee had previously viewed the film on November 28, 2025, and recommended an ‘A’ certificate with certain modifications. After re-examining the matter, the Board found no grounds to revise its earlier findings.
During earlier court proceedings, CBFC counsel Ashish Dixit had informed the bench that the certification process was underway and the objections were already being examined. The Court had suggested that the Board could seek inputs from the Indian Army if required. However, in its latest review, the CBFC concluded that such consultation was unnecessary as the film does not depict any real Army officer or actual military operation.
The petition by Major Sharma’s parents had argued that the film was being marketed as “inspired by true events” and allegedly reflected elements of the Army officer’s life and missions, raising concerns over dignity, posthumous privacy, and the portrayal of sensitive Special Forces operations. The filmmakers, represented by Senior Advocate Saurabh Kirpal, refuted these claims and maintained that the story is entirely fictional.
With the CBFC now completing its reconsideration and dismissing the objections, the certification process is expected to move forward as per guidelines.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.
