Guwahati: In a major crackdown on cross-border crime, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a smuggler carrying Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth ₹95,000 near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Dhubri district.
According to officials, acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel from the 66 Battalion of the BSF, in a joint operation with Assam Police, launched a late-night raid on April 12–13. During the operation, one Indian national was nabbed with counterfeit currency intended for circulation within India.
“The apprehended smuggler and the seized fake currency were handed over to the local police for further legal proceedings,” BSF stated.
In a post on social media platform X, BSF Guwahati Frontier said, “In a major success against transborder crime, Bordermen of 66 Bn BSF, in joint ops with Assam Police, apprehended an Indian smuggler with a FICN of ₹95,000 in Dhubri district.”
Highlighting the growing threats along the border, the BSF emphasised its continued vigilance against smuggling, trafficking, and other anti-national activities.
This operation follows a recent seizure on April 11, where troops from the 03 Battalion BSF intercepted a smuggling attempt and confiscated 386 bottles of prohibited cough syrup, reportedly meant for illegal export to Bangladesh.
The BSF has ramped up efforts to secure the sensitive border areas and thwart illegal cross-border activities.
