The Aryavarth Express New Delhi, March 19: Nishikant Dubey, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Thursday criticized Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, over her remarks on the alleged deletion of genuine voters during the electoral roll revision process. He asserted that if the BJP comes to power in the state, it will take strict action against “infiltrators.”
Nishikant Dubey defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating that names are removed only for valid reasons. Citing a personal example, he said even his parents’ names were deleted from their village voter list after relocating, emphasizing that a voter’s name can appear in only one place.
He also questioned Banerjee’s objections, pointing out that similar revision exercises were conducted smoothly in Bihar. Dubey challenged her to provide specific examples of genuine voters whose names were wrongly removed.
Escalating his criticism, Nishikant Dubey accused Banerjee of failing to cooperate with the central government on the issue of alleged illegal immigration from Bangladesh. He contrasted this with efforts in BJP-ruled and allied states such as Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, where he said steps have been taken to address border security and demographic concerns.
Dubey specifically mentioned Himanta Biswa Sharma, the Chief Minister of Assam, for actively campaigning on the issue, and referred to regional movements in Tripura raising concerns about declining tribal populations.
He further alleged that Banerjee’s stance on illegal immigration has changed since she came to power in 2011. “When our government is formed in West Bengal, all infiltrators will be uprooted,” he said, claiming large numbers of undocumented migrants are residing in the state.
The BJP leader also criticized past policies of the Indian National Congress, alleging that earlier governments had failed to address the issue effectively.
Reaffirming confidence in his party’s leadership under Narendra Modi, Dubey said the BJP would continue its campaign against illegal immigration and expressed optimism about retaining power at the Centre in the 2029 general elections.
