Canberra: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message following his recent election victory. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Albanese acknowledged the growing strength of India-Australia relations and said he looked forward to deepening cooperation between the two nations in the coming years.
“Thank you for the call, Prime Minister @narendramodi, and for your warm congratulations. The relationship between Australia and India has never been stronger. I look forward to working with you over the coming years to build a prosperous future for our region,” Albanese posted.
Prime Minister Modi also took to X to extend his congratulations and reaffirm the commitment to enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between the two countries.
“Spoke with my friend @AlboMP to personally congratulate him on his party’s historic victory. We agreed to work together with renewed vigour to advance the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explore new areas of cooperation,” PM Modi wrote.
According to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders emphasised the significant progress made under the CSP, which has developed robust cooperation across various sectors since its inception five years ago. They highlighted the key role played by the Indian-origin diaspora in strengthening bilateral ties.
PM Modi also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Albanese to visit India later this year for the Annual Summit and the QUAD Summit.
During their conversation, the leaders discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest and reiterated their shared commitment to promoting a free, open, and stable Indo-Pacific region grounded in international rules.
Albanese’s victory marks a significant political milestone, as he becomes the first Australian prime minister in over 20 years—since John Howard—to secure consecutive election wins. Addressing supporters in Sydney after the election, Albanese emphasised unity, resilience, and optimism.
“In this time of global uncertainty, Australians have chosen optimism and determination,” he said. “Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way—looking after each other while building for the future.”
