The Aryavarth Express Guwahati (Assam): BJP candidates Terash Gowalla and Jogen Mohan, along with United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president and NDA candidate Pramod Boro, filed their nominations on Thursday for three Rajya Sabha seats from Assam. The nominations were submitted in the presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination, Boro appealed to legislators across party lines to support his candidature in the upcoming election.
“I have filed my nomination and request all MLAs from different parties to cast their votes in favour of the UPPL candidate,” Boro said.
With the Assam Legislative Assembly elections approaching, Boro also said that the party has begun preparations in constituencies within the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region as well as in areas outside it.
“Preparations are underway for 15 seats in the council area and some seats outside the council area. After today’s nomination programme, we will decide our future course of action,” he added.
The Rajya Sabha polls in Assam will be held as the terms of three sitting MPs — Rameswar Teli, Bhubaneswar Kalita and Ajit Kumar Bhuyan — are set to end on April 9.
Meanwhile, in Chhattisgarh, Congress candidate Phoolo Devi Netam, who has been renominated for the Rajya Sabha elections, expressed gratitude to the party leadership for reposing faith in her.
“I express my deepest gratitude to the leadership for placing their trust in me once again. I will strive to live up to their expectations,” Netam said.
Assam BJP leaders and UPPL chief Pramod Boro filed nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections, marking a key political development.
Thursday marked the last day for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha polls. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 6, while the last date for withdrawal is March 9.
Polling for the biennial elections is scheduled for March 16, with counting of votes set for the same day at 5 pm. The election process is expected to conclude by March 20.
The elections will fill 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states — Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana — as the terms of the current members expire in April 2026.
