Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has strongly criticized Vijay Subramaniam, producer of the newly announced AI-generated film Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal. The project, billed as India’s first “Made-in-AI” theatrical release, is being produced by Abundantia Entertainment in collaboration with Collective Media Network’s Historyverse.
Taking to Instagram, Kashyap called out Subramaniam, who also heads a major talent agency representing writers, directors, and actors. He accused the producer of prioritizing profit over creativity and betraying the very artists his agency claims to support.
“Here is the man heading @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork… now producing a film made by AI. So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators,” Kashyap wrote.
The Gangs of Wasseypur director went further, urging actors and creators to reconsider their association with the agency. He described the move as an affront to artists, stating that any true artist with “a spine” should speak out or walk away.
“Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter,” Kashyap added, calling the film a sign of a “spineless” future for the industry.
His remarks follow a similar reaction from filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, who shared the film’s poster on his Instagram story with the caption: “And so it begins… Who TF needs writers and directors when it’s ‘Made in AI’.”
The film’s poster, revealed earlier this week, describes the project as a “first-of-its-kind, Made-in-AI, Made-in-India avatar.” Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal is scheduled for release on Hanuman Jayanti in 2026.
