New Delhi: An Air India flight from Delhi to Bengaluru was diverted to Bhopal on Tuesday after the flight crew detected a suspected technical issue mid-air, the airline said in a statement.
The aircraft, operating as flight AI2487, landed safely at Bhopal Airport, where it is undergoing detailed precautionary checks expected to take some time for rectification.
“Air India regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers by this unforeseen situation. Our ground team in Bhopal is providing full assistance and support to passengers. Every effort is being made to ensure they reach their destination at the earliest,” an airline spokesperson said.
The carrier reiterated that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain its top priority.
In a separate incident, Air India’s San Francisco–Delhi flight (AI174) made a precautionary landing at Ulaanbaatar International Airport in Mongolia on Monday after the crew reported a suspected technical issue en route.
The airline said that all passengers were safely disembarked and provided with meals and hotel accommodation after completing immigration procedures. “With the help of our partners and local authorities, Air India has extended immediate assistance to passengers. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly them to Delhi at the earliest,” the spokesperson added.
Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by both diversions, emphasizing that the precautionary measures were taken in the interest of passenger safety.
