Review Overview

The Aryavarth Express Davos (Switzerland): Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said that air connectivity and cooperation between India and the European Union have been further strengthened following high-level discussions held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos.

The Minister met European Union Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas on Thursday, with both sides holding detailed discussions on sustainability, innovation, and environmentally friendly transportation systems. The talks focused on deepening India–EU collaboration, particularly in the area of green aviation initiatives.

Innovation and sustainability emerged as key themes during the meeting, with emphasis on the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and the promotion of eco-friendly aviation practices. Both sides agreed to enhance participation in global green aviation initiatives and further strengthen bilateral ties.

The Minister also highlighted steps being taken to improve aviation safety standards. It was agreed to strengthen cooperation between the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in areas such as regulatory coordination, joint certification, cybersecurity, and drone regulations.

According to an official release, an action plan was formulated to deliver outcomes across airport infrastructure development, digital transformation, and sustainable growth. The initiatives are expected to contribute to job creation and attract greater investment into India’s aviation sector.

Planned measures include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between EASA and DGCA, the formation of joint working groups, and the implementation of technology transfer programmes. These efforts will be aligned with Indian government initiatives such as the UDAN scheme to elevate India’s aviation sector to global standards.

The meeting was described as a significant step toward promoting environmental sustainability, enhancing safety, and fostering innovation in India’s civil aviation sector.
