Review Overview

The Aryavarth Express Kolkata, April 7: Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday launched a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, framing the contest as a battle between two contrasting “RCs” — the BJP’s “Remote Control” and the TMC’s “Report Card.”

In a post on X, Abhishek Banerjee accused the BJP of using a “remote control” approach to interfere in Bengal’s governance. He alleged that the Centre was withholding the state’s rightful funds, attempting to disenfranchise voters through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, and creating communal divisions. He further claimed misuse of central agencies, forces, and democratic institutions for political purposes.

Abhishek Banerjee also criticised the BJP for allegedly targeting Bengal’s cultural identity, accusing it of labelling Bengalis as “Rohingya” or “Bangladeshi,” harassing migrant workers, and disrespecting the state’s traditions, food habits, and icons.

In contrast, he highlighted the TMC’s “report card,” pointing to 15 years of development under the party’s leadership. He stated that the government has delivered on its promises despite a lack of support from the Centre, citing completed projects, fulfilled commitments, and improved livelihoods as key achievements.

Referring to recent campaign events across regions such as Jalangi, Domkal, Harishchandrapur, Chanchal, and Siliguri, Abhishek Banerjee said the public response indicates growing support for the TMC.

He concluded by asserting that Bengal would determine its own future, rejecting what he described as “remote control politics” from Delhi.

The upcoming elections for the 294-member West Bengal Legislative Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, the TMC secured a decisive victory with 213 seats, while the BJP won 77 seats. The Congress and the Left Front failed to win any seats.
