Mumbai (Maharashtra): Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan participated in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 for the first time on Sunday, joining thousands of runners on the streets of Mumbai and describing the city’s energy and enthusiasm as “amazing.”
The 21st edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) witnessed massive participation, with over 69,000 people taking part, including more than 65,000 on-ground runners and around 3,700 virtual participants. This year, the marathon earned the prestigious World Athletics Gold Label Race status and featured a total prize money of USD 389,524, drawing runners from across India and overseas.
Interacting with the media, Aamir Khan spoke about the vibrant atmosphere and overwhelming enthusiasm surrounding the event. “We are participating in it for the first time. The enthusiasm we saw made me feel that we should come here every year. Mumbai and this marathon have an amazing spirit,” he said.
The actor was accompanied by his former wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, and daughter Ira Khan, who joined him in soaking in the festive energy of the marathon and cheering runners along the route.
Over the past two decades, the Tata Mumbai Marathon has evolved into a symbol of fitness, unity and resilience, playing a key role in promoting a running culture and encouraging community participation across the country. The event brings together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate perseverance, teamwork and the indomitable spirit of Mumbai.
On the professional front, Aamir Khan was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, where he portrayed a basketball coach training a group of neurodivergent children. The film, also starring Genelia Deshmukh and directed by Prasanna, was released in theatres on June 20.
