Shillong: The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar was inaugurated at the State Central Library, Shillong, on February 26. Organized by the Meghalaya Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDC Ltd) and sponsored by the Office of the DC (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the 10-day exhibition will run until March 7, 2025.
Santa Mary Shylla, MLA and Chairman of MHHDC Ltd, graced the event as the chief guest, alongside other dignitaries and guests. In her address, she emphasized the significance of preserving and promoting the Northeast’s cultural heritage through such exhibitions. She also encouraged visitors to engage with artisans and support their craftsmanship.
The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar provides a crucial platform for artisans to display their skills and reach a broader audience. Featuring 20 craft forms from across the Northeastern states, the exhibition showcases handwoven textiles, cane and bamboo crafts, pottery, stone carvings, and more.
