New Delhi | March 26, 2026 : Actor Kangana Ranaut on Thursday described films like Dhurandhar 2 as a reflection of a “New India” during the opening of the International Film Festival of Delhi 2026.
Speaking at the inaugural event held at Bharat Mandapam, Ranaut highlighted the importance of cinema that blends culture, patriotism and modern aspirations. She said such films capture the energy and vision of a developed India and emphasised the need for platforms like IFFD to promote them.
Ranaut also credited Narendra Modi for inspiring the vision of a progressive and developed nation, stating that the film industry is moving forward with that goal.
Calling IFFD a major global platform, she noted that it provides an opportunity to witness cinematic excellence from across the world. She described the festival as a “big celebration” featuring screenings, masterclasses and interactions for artists and filmmakers.
Marking her 20-year journey in cinema, Ranaut reflected on her long association with the film industry and its impact on her life.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent personalities from the film fraternity. Veteran actors Sharmila Tagore, Dharmendra (posthumously honoured), and Nandamuri Balakrishna were conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to Indian cinema.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasised the cultural significance of the festival, stating that it aims to shape a new creative identity for the capital and provide opportunities for emerging artists, especially women.
The ceremony also paid tribute to 150 years of Vande Mataram, setting a patriotic tone for the festival. The inaugural lamp was lit by dignitaries including Ranaut, Sharmila Tagore and Hema Malini.
Organised by the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation in association with the Delhi government, IFFD 2026 will run until March 31, featuring a wide range of screenings, panel discussions and cultural events across the city.
