New Delhi [India], March 24: As Hockey India prepares to host the Hockey India 8th Annual Awards 2025 on March 27 in New Delhi, Indian hockey stars Hardik Singh and Navneet Kaur shared their excitement and gratitude after being nominated for the prestigious Hockey India ‘Balbir Singh Sr. Award’ for Player of the Year 2025
In addition to the top honour, Hardik has also been nominated for the ‘Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award’ for Midfielder of the Year 2025, while Navneet is in contention for the ‘Hockey India Dhanraj Pillay Award’ for Forward of the Year 2025, reflecting their consistent performances over the past year, according to a Hockey India press release.
Both players have been pivotal in India’s international campaigns in 2025. Hardik played a key role in India’s Gold medal-winning run at the Hero Asia Cup in Rajgir, Bihar, contributing strong performances in the midfield. Navneet was instrumental in India’s journey to the Silver medal at the Women’s Asia Cup in Gongshu, scoring six goals and achieving the milestone of 200 international caps. She also shone at the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Hyderabad, Telangana, where India secured Silver, with Navneet finishing as the third-highest goal scorer with four goals and earning the ‘Player of the Tournament’ title.
Speaking about his nomination, Hardik said, “It feels really good to be recognised for the Hockey India Annual Awards. When an athlete receives such nominations, it reflects the hard work and dedication they put in every day.” He added that winning the Asia Cup in Bihar was a standout moment: “It was a tough challenge, but we came together as a team, and I felt my individual performance was strong as well.”
Hardik also highlighted his passion for the sport, saying, “I love hockey and give my 110 per cent on and off the field. My teammates and family have always supported me, which allows me to express myself fully through hockey.” Looking ahead, he expressed motivation for the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup and Asian Games, noting the rarity of playing three consecutive World Cups.

Navneet Kaur echoed her happiness at the nominations: “I am really honoured to be considered for the Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year and the Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of the Year. I thank my family and teammates for their constant support.” Reflecting on her memorable moments from 2025, she said, “Completing 200 matches for India during the Asia Cup was very special. While we didn’t win the Final, our team performance was exceptional.”
She also shared the key to her consistent form: “There is no secret—just continuous hard work. I have focused on improving my game, from penalty corner flicks to playing more freely on the field. Experience also plays a crucial role.” Looking forward, Navneet added, “Major tournaments like the FIH Hockey World Cup and Asian Games are always motivating. We prepare for years for these moments, and I am ready to give my best for the team.”
