The Aryavarth Express Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 23: The Telangana BJP staged a “Siege Assembly” (Assembly Muttadi) protest on Monday, pressing the state government to honour its unfulfilled poll promises, particularly regarding student fee reimbursements.
The BJP accused the ruling Congress of misleading the public with false assurances during the assembly elections and failing to implement key welfare measures.
Criticizing the government, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA KP Vivekanand Goud highlighted a delay of over ₹12,000 crore in student fee reimbursements, affecting more than 2.5 years of pending payments. Speaking to the media, he said, “The government promised to reimburse students’ fees, but 2.5 years have passed, and nearly ₹12,000 crore remains unpaid. Poor students from SC, ST, BC, and minority communities are suffering—they are unable to receive their certificates even after completing their degrees. The government must release the pending funds immediately.”
BRS leader Palla Rajeshwar Reddy added that the scheme benefits 10–12 lakh students annually, but the prolonged delay has caused severe financial stress for students, faculty, and educational institutions. “For the last 2.5 years, the Congress government has not paid a single rupee towards fee reimbursement. This scheme, originally started by the Congress and later extended under Chief Minister KCR to include more communities, provides around ₹2,500 crore annually to students. But now, neither students nor colleges have received any payment. Faculty salaries are pending, and some institutions are on the verge of closure. The government must act immediately,” he said.
BRS MLC Madhusudhana Chary emphasized that students’ futures are at stake. Speaking to ANI, he said, “Students are under tremendous stress due to delayed reimbursements. We demand that the government honour its promise without further delay. Their education and future depend on it.”
The protest underscores mounting political pressure on the state government to expedite the disbursement of pending student fee reimbursements and fulfil election commitments.
