The Aryavarth Express New Delhi, March 17: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) National General Secretary Vikas Chikara has approached the Patiala House Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the AI Summit protest case. Delhi Police have named him an alleged conspirator, and a non-bailable warrant (NBW) has been issued against him.
During the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Amit Bansal heard senior advocates Tanvir Ahmed Mir and Rajeev Mohan, representing Chikara. The Delhi Police requested more time to submit their reply and make arguments, as ASG DP Singh was unavailable. The matter is now listed for argument on March 20. The court did not grant any immediate relief.
Chikara has filed the anticipatory bail application through Advocate Roopesh Singh Bhadauria. He is accused of being involved in the protest carried out by IYC workers at the AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam on February 20.
Patiala House Court has already granted bail to 13 other accused, including Uday Bhanu Chib, the IYC President. Another anticipatory bail application, filed by Manish Sharma, IYC Incharge, is scheduled for hearing on March 18.
The case relates to a ‘shirtless’ protest by IYC cadres against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the AI Impact Summit, where party workers removed their shirts to express dissent, criticizing the summit and alleging compromise over the India-US interim trade agreement.
